This standard, for example ensures that the UV light does not degrade components used within the products. Plastics degrade under UV light and so would be unlikely to attain NSF61. See:

ETS is an expert in the application of UV light, offering both medium pressure and low pressure amalgam lamp technologies. Flexible design ensures that ETS can provide advanced technology solutions for both new installations and retrofits of existing systems, in a range of simple to footprint challenging environments. From only a few GPM to full-scale water treatment plants treating flows of 30 MGD in a single chamber, ETS can provide effective solutions for any specification or location. All systems are independently, third party validated in accordance with the US EPA guidelines for drinking water, or the NWRI guidelines for reuse water.
